SOPRAELEVATE Sportscapes reviewed / SILVERSTONE CIRCUIT / STOWE LANDSCAPE GARDEN
130 km NW of London, S Northampton. Area: 210 ha, lap length: 5.140 km. In 1948 the airfield at Silverstone was turned into a race course. In 1950 the Formula 1 World Championships held its first race ever here. Since then the course itself has been altered frequently, though the original character has been retained. Situated in the midst of a spacious park landscape and in the immediate neighborhood of the classical landscape garden of Stowe, the impression made by this sports desert is all the more drastic. There are no indications at all of the Silverstone sports legend.
