LUST AU / 2006/07
Artistic Landscape Project „Lust-Au“ (Industry-Riverine-Garden)

The concept is built upon the strata that have developed in the Lustenau and tries to draw energy for the new horticultural qualities from the neglected open space. Potential will be clarified and developed. The extensive space allows for a model fusion of urban and rural functions into a unity of the working world and places of bucolic leisure. Country walks and sports activities will be offered along with places for pondering art and experiencing the environment. Gardens are islands of slowness; regeneration is achieved through the interplay with orderly nature. Innovation and poetry are the guiding demands in all aspects of the work. The „Lust-Au“ is primarily a gift to all the people who work in this part of the city, but also for all inhabitants of Linz. Another important target group are bicycle tourists. The city lies along the heavily traveled bicycle route Passau-Vienna. This group of tourists (280,000 per year) should not be diverted to the bicycle path east of the Danube, but should be led downstream via the Lustenau. This, aside from the old part of the city, would allow Linz to show off a distinctive attraction: an active, environmentally compatible industrial location as a huge garden complex = an Industry Au Garden = the „Lust-Au“. Participation in the design process should be offered through the Platform „Linz 09“ to all the appropriate magistrates, companies, groups and individuals in partnership. The phased implementation of the „Lust-Au“ should, starting in 2007, ensure a lasting result that will extend beyond the year 2009.
